A surgical extraction is a slightly more complex procedure that occurs when a tooth has not yet broken through the gum line, or has not yet fully grown into the mouth. Surgical tooth extraction is a procedure that's used for removing a tooth which consists of additional surgical steps that are not required during the routine extractions. During the surgical extraction, the dentist makes an incision on a section of the gum tissue.
Tooth extraction is performed by a dentist or oral surgeon and is a relatively quick outpatient procedure with either local, general, intravenous anesthesia, or a combination. Removing visible teeth is a simple extraction. Teeth that are broken, below the surface, or impacted require a more involved procedure.
